Marcus Ross: Volunteer Work
Marcus has been an active volunteer for the P.A.R.T.Y. Program Calgary (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) for the past couple of years. As a result of his strong public-speaking abilities, he is able to effectively share his experiences with high school and junior high students. The purpose of the program is to emphasize that risk-taking has serious consequences and that a poor decision can quickly make the rest of your life "difficult". Although his accident was not alcohol-related (he dove into shallow water), his injury was preventable and this is what he tries to make the students understand. The program is also very useful in demonstrating to thousands of students each year that people with disabilities are still people.
Marcus is also a community ambassador for the CPA (Canadian Paraplegic Association) and visits newly injured patients at hospitals on a weekly basis to encourage them and serve as a role model.
