Portraying the Wheelchair Bound Character Jesse 2
Originally written as a computer named Jesse, the first script did not include a human character for the role of Jesse. Marcus Ross was hired 'after the fact' when Director Allex Michael decided a disabled human character would be a better choice for the role of backup liaison.
Allex Michael: "I came up with the idea of using a disabled human for a backup liaison vs a computer before we stopped shooting. 'Jesse', the human character, better serves the story for the film 'Search Dog's Raven' and for the animated spinoff. Given that the film takes place about seven years in the future, I think it will take several decades before your home computer is responsive enough to act as any kind of backup liaison.
I'm originally from Alberta, Canada, where we shot Marcus Ross and over half of the film Search Dog's Raven. So even though they are the top search dog team in the NW United States, I thought it would be a nice touch to have their backup liaison located in Calgary, Alberta. My Mom and her family are from Montana and relatives constantly mispronounce the name Calgary. So the film has a couple lines about that as well."
